i've seen several articles about this and lots of discussion, so I thought I'd bring it up here. On Wednesday June 2, the Tigers' Armando Galarraga was 1 out away from a perfect game. he got the batter to hit a ground ball that was fielded by the first baseman and tossed to galarraga at first for what appeared to be the final out to complete the perfect game. but the first base ump called the runner safe, only later to see replays and realize that not only was the batter out, it was clear that he was out.
So now the debate begins. With it being the final out, not affecting the outcome (only the perfect game status), and being admittedly called a blown call by the ump that made the call; should Bud Selig overturn or reverse the call to award galarraga a perfect game?
If it were any other circumstance, for instance the first out of the ninth inning or a ball/strike judgment, or a mid game like 5th inning call that was blown, I would say NO. You have to live with it, simply because there is no wya of knowing what wouldve happened after that call in those instances. But this is what should have been the LAST out of the game. Not only do I think Selig should overturn this, I think he HAS to overturn it. You are keeping the kid from his piece of history. Had it been a disputed call where the ump sticks to his guns and says it was the right call, there's nothing you can do. But this is the ONE scenario I think Selig needs to review and overturn. Like I said it would have been the last play of the game, it was admittedly a blown call, and changing the play would have no affect on the score or outcome of the game.
I say overturn it and give the kid his piece of history. What say you?
