The IceMen kicked off the season with a split in Madison last weekend, and now the REAL fun begins...
Friday's home opener against the Ice Muskies starts at 7. Fans are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes to the game, and the Nick Nackery will be
giving a freaky freebie to the first 300 fans through the doors. The pre-game warmups should begin around 6:30, and I think we need to encourage everyone to be
there in time to go crazy-wacky-nuts the first time the IceMen hit the ice!
Sunday's matinee against the new-and-improved Chicago Blaze starts at 4. It's College Night, and fans are asked to wear apparel in support of their
favorite college. And on what is expected to be a beautiful sunny fall day, the Maniacs will be tailgating at Swonder starting around 2. Should be fun!

Notes:
* The WYIR webpage still says their stream is down, but if you click LISTEN ONLINE it seems to be working just fine now. So I think they got their stream
fixed, but haven't yet removed the note on their page.
* No word on whether or not LeagueStat will actually be working this weekend, so those links may end up being worthless. Hopefully the league can get that
issue resolved before we lose another weekend of realtime updates. While our 2 games will be on the radio, only 1 of the other 4 weekend games will be...so
it'd be nice to have LeagueStat back up and running.
* Also please note that Daylight Saving Time ends on Sunday morning, so "fall back" an hour before you go to bed Saturday night. Use that extra hour
of sleep to rest up for Sunday's big game against the Blaze!

Friday's Game is almost here! Just wanted to see what other people were thinking about the upcoming two games with the Muskies and Blaze. I think we have
a chance if we play to our abilities with the Muskies. As for the Blaze, I think we might get it handed to us. I am thinking maybe a 0 - 10 game not to sound
to down on the Icemen but with their defense, two starting IHL players plus others with higher level experience, we are going to have problems scoring. They
also have very talented forwards and we have had a very lackluster defense so far. These are just all bad combinations for the Icemen.

I believe the away game for Saturday night has been canceled/rescheduled. Info is from the asst coach, so I assume he knows what he's talking about (but
don't tell him I said that)!

I'm hoping Friday will be a good game like last Friday, and that last Saturday wasn't truly indicative of what this team is going to be. If these guys
can't bring it with a packed house on Opening Night, then they're never going to. As for Sunday, well, that worries me a bit too. This ain't the
same Blaze team that served as the league's whipping boys last season. But we'll see...hopefully our guys will realize that and come ready to play. The
only place success comes before work is in the dictionary. Gotta give it your all every shift, win the battles in the corners, take it to 'em physically,
and play solid team defense. I think we've got the talent necessary - it's just a matter of getting everyone on the same page and bringing it mentally
every night. Should be a fun opening weekend...

Does anyone know if Mark Hammersmith for the blaze is still injured? Has anyone read the stats on the Blaze's Goalie? How do you even get a puck past that?
He is 6'5 and 205 for those of you who have not looked.

I think on any given day this team can match any team in the league, but they have to remember that there's 60 minutes of hockey in each and every game. If
they bring their A game, they can handle it.
Yea the Blaze is definitely a different team than last. They're a real team this year not some guys they picked up on the road on the way to Evansville. |

Ben, I'll usually start the game thread a day or two before the first IceMen game of the weekend, just FYI. But I understand and appreciate your excitement
this week, so I won't ban you for starting the thread before me. :)
Wendy, it appears as if you're right. Chip has deleted Saturday's road game from the schedule on the website, and Chi-Town's site doesn't list it any longer either. (It does show a game on Tuesday, December 8th though, so maybe that's the new date for it.) Would've been nice of someone to, oh I don't know, ANNOUNCE THAT THE SCHEDULE CHANGED. Grrr... Anyhoo...the Blaze goalie may be big, but that doesn't necessarily mean he's good. He certainly could be, but size alone does not a good goalie make. In fact, size can hurt you if it makes you slower and less agile. In pro hockey, shots come fast and in rapid succession, so it doesn't matter how big you are if you move like a sloth!

Yes. All season - as I did last weekend - I'm going to be including info for all of the AAHL's weekend games in each game thread. So we'll have one
thread per weekend of action, for discussion about the IceMen games and all games involving other teams.
Just received confirmation from Chip that the 10/31 road game has indeed been moved to 12/8 - at 12:55 PM. Nothing like a Tuesday day game...

The first post has now been updated with all of the schedule info and links. I'll use the same basic format for each weekly thread all season - discussion about our games, the full league schedule for the weekend, then any notes of interest. For those who weren't around today and are confused by the discussion so far, allow me to explain. Bennymac, overcome by anticipation for Opening Night, posted a game discussion thread this morning, which I was planning to do this afternoon. (I prefer to start the game threads - usually a day or two before the first IceMen game - so the first post contains the full league schedule, links for LeagueStat and radio streams, etc.) So I started a new thread, then pulled Bennymac's post in as the first reply. Mixed into all of this was discussion about a road game on Saturday 10/31, which was originally on the schedule but has now been moved to 12/8. So there ya have it...clear as mud? Now that the intro post is finished and we know the weekend's schedule, let's get back to business... LET'S GO ICEMEN!!!

I just wish I felt better. The bug that I've been fighting since Madison slammed me full force last night.. Coughing, stuffy head the works. Slept in this
