I posted this in the game discussion thread but decided to start a new thread on it to see where it goes.
I was thinking about this. Can any of you veteran fans of minor league hockey tell me if my fears are true? If we are affiliated with two NHL teams and these teams send us players, does that tie the hands of Coach Kromm so that he cannot really make any moves to improve our players? For instance, hypothetically, if our goalie is not very good and we wanted to replace him with an available free agent, could we do that? Or are we stuck with what the big clubs assign us? I will also ask...does the big club have any say in playing time?
It seems that we may have our hands tied on player movement and if so, we are only capable of being as good as the players our big clubs sign, draft etc etc. If Coach Kromm is a great general manager, he may not be able to work his magic if this is the case. Our assets that may sway players into playing in Evansville, like the Ford Center, the crowds, etc etc may not mean nearly as much. If we cant build our own team and have a team to get attached to and get behind, was the move to the ECL really the best move for a city like Evansville that is very fickle on who they back? Or would it have been better to stay in the CHL and have a team that Coach Kromm picked and that the home crowd can get behind? While I will admit the level of play is better, I dont see where it is that much better than the CHL in terms of the fan experience.
Bottom line is this team in not very good...in fact they are not even competitive. It would be fine if they were competitive but they are not even that. I dont want to hear give them time to gel...every other team in the ECL is dealing with the same issues we are and seem to be doing just fine.
Thoughts?? Answers?
